Peyton Randolph was a planter and public official from the Colony of Virginia. He served as Speaker of the Virginia House of Burgesses, president of Virginia Conventions, and the first President of the Continental Congress. Thomas Cushing was a merchant and lawyer and was active in Boston politics. He represented the city in the provincial assembly from 1761 to its dissolution in 1774 and protested many British policies.
