To my Worshipfull well aproued good friend Mr. John Wintrop at Honton Houton Hall these.
Sir,

I do vnderstand that Stoke2 Vicaradge is not yet giuen. It is a great parish. I do from my hart persuade my selfe that at Naylond would be a good Church of God if they had a good minister. Theare is one or two. One is one Mr. Watson felow of Trinitie Colledge. I take the next yere to be his yere of Bachelour of Diuinitie. A Gentleman borne hath of his owne some xx or xxx li. Cleere a yere. A man of gret lerning for his tyme and verie quiet. Theare is another one Mr. Gilgate,3 sonne vnto Mr. Gilgate that dwelt at Langham, one whome I thinke Mr. Manocke4 knew and a verie quiet honest man. A sufficient scholer. A bachelour and so I thinke it may be he will contynue for he is of some good resonable yeres. Let me intreat you euer in the Affection that I know you beare to the Churche of God to look into it and help. If extremitie of busines had not hinderd I would haue bene with you afore this tyme and I purpose afore weekes be ended to come to you. In the meane tyme the thing is presently to be done. Let me intreat importunitie to the vttermost you can. I pitie the Church. The Lord stirre vp all our hartes to loue it and labour for the good of it. I take my leaue thus hastely this hande being wearie. Commending my selfe to your owne selfe and Mris. Wintrop, Not forgetting Mris. Hanna, Your Worships exceedingly behoulding to you

Hen. Sandes.
