Tom Rider is a PhD Candidate in History at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, working on a dissertation tentatively titled, "Whaleboats and Riflemen: George Washington's Petite Guerre for Boston, 1775-1776." He is a former United States Army officer and has taught military history at both the United States Military Academy at West Point, and at UW - Madison.
