- ALS offered for sale, Kenneth W. Rendall, Inc. Newton, Mass., Cat. No. 86, [July 1973], Item no. 2, $350. Again, Cat. No. 100 (Autographs & MSS of Presidents), 1974, Item 49, $385.
- Adams commences with a discussion of an inquiry that he has made on Lincoln's behalf concerning a payment from the Commissioner of Pensions which has evidently been delayed in reaching Lincoln. "...I offer you my thanks for the information...in...your letter and for your own sentiments upon the general condition of our public affairs at this time. That condition is certainly distressed and distressing. It is also alarming. But yet I rely upon the corrective power of public opinion, too slow indeed in its operation to avert or to repair much of the calamities we are suffering, but able to redeem us from the evils of its own errors in the end...."
- and again, The Rendells, 1980, Cat. No. 150, Item 80, $1500.
