Original paper slip text:[5–6? Aug. 1783]
- Note: This is probably the "Project" that JA speaks of as his own in a letter to Livingston, 10 Aug. 1783, which was presented by Franklin and Jay to Hartley while JA was at The Hague; see Wharton, 6:643; see also JA to Livingston, 13 Aug. (same, p. 645), reporting that JA and Franklin presented this Project to Vergennes for his consideration. There is a text, "(Project for) the definitive Treaty of Peace and Friendship" between Great Britain and the U.S.
