John Stuart (3rd Earl of Bute)
25 May 1713 - 10 March 1792
John Stuart (3rd Earl of Bute) was a Scottish nobleman who served as Prime Minister for George III, 1762-1763. Despite being labeled as one of Britain's most unpopular ministers, Bute was a favorite of Frederick, Prince of Wales, and his wife, Princess Augusta, until their deaths in 1751 and 1772, respectively. Over the course of his political career, Bute would seek to dissolve the Whig oligarchy, increase the power of the King over Parliament, and arrange peace with France. Upon his resignation in 1763, Bute continued to participate in the House of Lords until 1780. He spent the remaining years of his life in London, where he died on 10 March 1792.
