October 13, 1640

On the 16 of August last, I arrived at Newe England.

On the 25 of August last, I received 5li of Mr. Mathewe Allyne, as part of of 40li, due from him to me, on the 13 daye of September then next followeinge, vpon the Forfaiture of a Bond of 80li. But my principall mony was not answeared, till the 10th daye of this present month of October, beinge a full month after the time of due payement.

And the Forfaiture of my Bond, or my losses or dammages arisinge thervpon, ar not answeared to this daye nor will they be ever answeared, vnless some frind doe helpe me. And my dammage is as followeth.

On the 24th of September last, beinge Thursedaye I had passed for Bristowe in mr. Willkinge his Shipe, but wanting my mony, I have stayed here, till this daye, which will be 3 weekes next Thursedaye and I shall be very like to staye here 3 weekes or a month longer to my owne cost and charge; which is much to my small stocke of 30li, all my temporall State, to sustaine me.

But Mr. Allynes answeare, and all his answeare, is this because he payed me 5li of my 40li 20 dayes before my 40li was due.

Therfor he thinkes it Lawefull for him to keepe the other 35li of my 40li from me, 28 dayes after it was due; not regardinge herein, either the forfaiture of his Bond of fourscore pounds or my losse and dammage of 6, 7, or 8 weekes charges for want of my mony or that he hath had my mony this halfe yeare gratis, payeinge noe vse for it Your humble Servant
