Other papers of this interesting wardship occur above, p. 5; and there are numerous entries concerning it in the books of the Court of Wards. Sir Euseby Andrew of co. Northampton, died seized of “the Mannor of Charlewelton in the county of Northampton with the appurtenances and of diuers other Landes and tenements.” His widow, the Lady Anne Andrew, became ward of his son and heir, Edward. April 27, 1627, she denied upon oath that she “purposed to marry Edward Andrewe esq. his Maiesties warde vnto the daughter of one Edward Farmer beinge but a meane man.” John Bretton, Esq., had a claim of 260 li. against her, which he sought to satisfy from her jointure lands. The court found that the debt was originally Sir Euseby's, and ordered an appropriate adjustment. C. W. 96. 283 (decree); 542. 1137; 543. 16, 49, 65, 97; 566. (unpaged), April 27, 1627, April 7, 1628; 567. 6, 36, 141, 382.

“Richard Chamberlayne esq. Clerke of this Courte.” C. W. 542. 1467, February 12, 1628. He was admitted of the Inner Temple, 1592. In 1619 he occupied a chamber in the Inner Temple with Hugh Audley.

An inquisition was held at Lincoln, May 23, 1627, after the death of Robert Portis, gent. He left a capital messuage called the Prior Garth in Roxeby, co. Lincoln, and other holdings. George Potter, citizen and saddler of London, and Richard Hethersall, merchant tailor, were appointed executors. They were authorized to sell certain lands in Long Sutton, co. Lincoln, to satisfy debts. Cesar Portis, son of John, was ward of the king. C. W. 95. 590–591 (decree); 542. 1195, 1205; 566. (unpaged), June 14, November 19, 22, 1627.
