Sonne John,

I received from you 3: Lettres one from Plimmouth and 2 from Legorne: the last dated Aug: 11: by which I vnderstande of your wellfare and good successe in your voyage, for which my selfe and all your freindes heere doe muche reioyce and heartyly thanke the Lorde for his mercye towardes you: I mervaile you received not my Lettre which I wrote to you in June, and lefte it at mr. Soames2 to be sent to you: I wrote to mr. Soame also for a Lettre of Credence for you, and appointed to come to him about it, but before I could goe, he was forthe of towne: your vnckle Downinge wrote to you also: I am now at Groton, and therefore am bould with your vnckle D: to trouble him with procuringe you Lettres of Credence for 20 li. that it may be ready for you at your returne to Legorne. I suppose you have heard before this of the D: of Buck: his deathe,3 and suche other thinges as have fallen out heare: I cannot now write muche to you, but when I come at London, (God willinge) I will write more largely of suche occurrentes as are certaine, and fitt to be written. we are all in healthe as you lefte vs (God be praysed) your grandmother and mother salute and blesse you, your brothers and sister salute you: and your vnckle Gostlin and aunte: Now the good Lorde who hathe pleased of his great mercye to take care of you from the cradle hetherto, and hathe, in his most wise and holy providence disposed of you in this course of life preserve blesse and prosper you therein, so as your life may be improved to his glorye, the good of the churche and your owne comfort and salvation Amen. Remember my lovinge salutation to Captaine Maplesden: have care of your healthe, especially of your soule and conscience. Farewell, your lovinge father
