I have wrote once & again relating to the Notes I have of you & out of mere complaisance to you neglected to send them till you should say you were ready as you proposed, but I hear nothing from you & the money I want much. I have therefore given them to Mr. James Brenton & hope you'll pay him the Money. You must be sensible that by not195paying the Money when I was there I am put to the expence of sending for it. I therefore think it reasonable you should pay the Interest wch. at least is but a Sum Sufficient to answer the Commission Insurance & freight, especially as I have been so patient. Hoping you are well I Subscribe yr. hble. servt.,

Know all Men by these present that I Robert Treat Paine of Boston in the County of Suffolk and Province of the Massachusetts Bay Gentleman do hereby Constitute & appoint James Brenton of Newport in Colony of Rhode Island my attorney in my Name & Stead & to pray thee to appear at Halifax in the Province of Nova Scotia in all causes moved or to be moved for me to demand & receive all Sums of money debts dues & demands of any kind & any part of them due to me in the Province of Nova Scotia & to sue for the same & to prosecute such suits to final Judgt. and Execution and to give all needful acquittances & discharges for such debts & demands with power of substitution. In testimony hereof I have hereunto set my hand & Seal this blank day of Novr. 1760

I take this Opportunity to request the favr. of you to let me know what Scituation Belcher's Note to me is in. Tis long Since I heard from you. I hope 'ere this you have got the money & only wait An Oppertunity to send it. You know Sr. the receipt you gave me for that note Was included in one you gave me for Wenman's Note which obliged me to send it to you When Wenman's Note was paid. I should be glad to hear from you, & if you have recd. the money or any part of it please to send it me directed to the Care of Mr. John Hurd Mercht. in Boston as I my self196may chance to be in the Country but Sr. if you have not recd. the money it may not be amiss to send me a receipt of his Note as I have Nothing to show in case you should dye. The Bearer of this Letter Mr. Brenton purposes to practice Law Among you & I doubt not hee'll acquit himself honorably. If Belcher be not sued and no other attorney engaged in the matter please to employ him. Hoping you enjoy health & prosperity I subscribe yr. hble.
