On Oct. 25, RTP noted in his diary that “The new Constitution of Massachusetts took place. John Hancock Esqr. declared Governor went into meeting at 3 & ½ oClock & to dinner past 5.” Three days later RTP did accept this invitation as also noted in his diary.

Among the nomenclature changes adopted by the new constitution, the Superiour Court of Judicature became the Supreme Judicial Court, and that title will be used hereafter.
