Not being able to purchase a Fyall quarter pipe1 I2 have Sent you the Contents of a quarter pipe in a Cask of a larger size. I am in haste Sir yr. humb. Servt.

That is, a quarter pipe (a measure of varying size) of Fayal wine.

Elisha Hutchinson (1745–1824), merchant of Boston, was the second son of Thomas Hutchinson, chief justice and soon-to-be acting governor of Massachusetts (Peter Orlando Hutchinson, ed., Diary and Letters of His Excellency Thomas Hutchinson, Esq., 2 vols. [Boston, 1884–1886], 2:472).
