Mr. Mc.Whorter has settle'd with Mr. Gould & paid my Fees, & if there are no Sheriff's Fees, you may return The Writ to me or destroy it as you please.

Mr. Thacher1you may remember I told you, objected to the Sale of Mr. Prat's2 Law-Books at The apprized Value, & perhaps since you went from hence, you may have seen in the Newspaper, an Advertisement for the Sale of them at public Vendue, now Sir, what I would desire from The Premises, is This, that tho' I sold you the Books you took, at the appraizement, yet that as Mrs. Thacher seems uneasy, that you wd. be so good, if you can find it in yr. Heart, as to return Them. NB. I promised Mr. Thacher I would write thus to you, but I think as you made a fair Purchase of them, you may write me what Answer you please to This, provided its Such an One, as I can show him. Your money is ready, if you conclude to restore Them.

I have never yet, heard any Thing of The Officer who served the Writ Gould vs Nye, & by his Letter to me wch. I show'd you he recd. The Money thereon. Be so kind as to enquire about The Affair for me. I am in great Haste Your very Hble. Sert.,

Benjamin Prat's law library was advertised for sale at public auction on Tuesday, Dec. 22 at the Probate Office (Boston Gazette, Nov. 21, 1763).

RTP noted in his cashbook the purchase of books on Sept. 7 and Nov. 7. The former group included Strange's Reports, 2 vols., Lilly's Conveyancer, Law's serious call, and Wilkes's Advice. The latter group included Lilly's Entrys, Dalton's Justice, Holt's Reports, Lucas's Reports, and the Idler.
