I leave with you Henry Snoad Esqrs. Obligation to me for £89.1.4 Procn., And an Order on him for the Ballance being £51. 2 which I doubt not you'll do yr. Endeavour to get as speedy as may be. When Mr. Snoad comes into the Country, I should be glad if you would make Application to him & get the Order Accepted, & as soon as you can write to me or to Mr. Joseph Palmer Card Maker in Boston, how the Matter is like to go. If Mr. Snoad should prove dead, pray make timely Application to his Executors so as I may come speedily by my due. As soon as I arrive at Boston I shall be better able to write you how I would have the Effects dispos'd off when got. At present I think of nothing more; but leave the matter to yr. Prudence, not doubting but you'll do the most for him whom yr. many Kindness has Rendred yr. Freind & humble Servt.

Edward Salter was a prominent merchant of Bath and later a member of the General Assembly. His father, Edward, in his will probated Feb. 5, 1734, made provision for the education of his son "to make him a compleat merchant" (Colonial Records of North Carolina, 9:298, 716; Abstract of North Carolina Wills [Raleigh, 1910], 325).
