26. VI:15. Despatch to the Secretary of State, and wrote a page of this Journal without retrieving arrears— Note from Mr Murdoch inviting us to dine with him the 4th: of May— Rode out in the Curricle with Mrs Adams, over Hounslow Heath to the 13th: Mile Stone. By the Evening’s Post I received Letters from Mr Maury, and from a Dr Goodlet arrived at Liverpool from America— He brought me despatches from the Secretary of State, which Mr Maury has forwarded to me by the Mail-Coach.— Dr Goodlet encloses two Letters of Recommendation from Mr Monroe, and Mr Clay— He is going from Liverpool to Scotland upon business of his own, concerning which he asks my advice—and he expects to come to London in June— After dinner I took a half an hour’s walk with Mrs Adams and George whom we met returning from school. In the Evening the weather being clear, I shewed George the six signs or Constellations of the Zodiac Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo and Libra; with several other Constellations. We sat up to see Antares rise, at about eleven O’Clock— The Planet Jupiter is in Libra. We compared the visible Stars, with the Charts of Bode’s Uranographia.
