Friday April 1. 1791. I have many time attempted? to keep a Journal of my transactions, but steady and? regular attention to one object, is more difficult than we? are ready to imagine; yet and I have always dropped the practice after a period of longer or of shorter duration. Yet it frequently happens that I wish to fix the fleeting reflection which originates in some transient occurrence, let me attempt once more an undertaking, which indolence has so often rendered abortive, and perhaps I may this Time be the more successful for avoiding the constraint of a regular and daily recurrence to my diary. Upon the present occasion I shall be contented with this introduction, and indeed have little to observe upon the present day, which I have spent altogether at my office.
