Chilly and decidedly autumnal. The gale last night uncommonly severe. I finished up all the details that were in arrears, and went out with Mrs Adams to return visits to Mr and Mrs Blatchford, Mr and Mrs Jones, and Mr Tricompi. President Benson returned the form of Treaty with only a single proposed modification to which I assented, and the Secretaries proceeded to prepare the papers. Tomorrow at eleven o’clock was assigned for the execution. In the evening I read the Spanish Diary of Lord Auchland which is rather amusing.
