A heavier snow than I have seen this winter. I was not dressed when the first man appeared to get my support for an office, and from that time a continuous string poured in until one o’clock, when I refused to admit any more in order to give me time to go down into town and attend to some business. The afternoon was passed in writing letters sending off the petitions—so that I had not a moment to attend to my private affairs. It is clear that I have gained nothing by my removal in regard to leisure.
