Quincy

Morning cloudy but the weather became gradually mild and clear. I went down to the Market to see what Thanksgiving was to be seen. The display was not so great as I have seen but I made out to obtain provisions for a considerable period. Then to the Office but my occupations at the Office were almost prevented by a visit from Mr. Curtis who came by appointment to see my Father. He waited until twelve, when my father came. I thus barely had time enough to write my Journal, and arrange my Accounts for the month and close of my Quarter.

Returned home and dressed myself to go out to dine with Dr. G. Parkman. The Company consisted of my Father, Chief Justice Shaw, Messrs. Palfrey and Parkman, Clergymen, Messrs. Coolidge J. and T. B., R. G. Shaw, D. Parkman and P. O. Thacher. The dinner was very good and we got through exceedingly well, so as to start for Quincy shortly after five o’clock.

The weather has been so bad that the roads were very unpleasant, but we reached Quincy by seven o’clock. Found my Mother this time in remarkably good spirits. Strange it is, but the passage of ten days in which her mind has been occupied has produced a wonderful effect upon her feelings. We passed the evening very cosily in talking and on the whole amused ourselves very well until time to retire.
