Weather changed during the night to sharp cold. I went to town. Return to my fathers where I remained the night. Visits.
Up early to get off the family and moveables and to complete the shutting up of the house. Went to town accompanied by my manservant, leaving the rest of the people and the three younger children to go in the Carriage. Mrs. Adams and Louisa propose to stay with me at my father’s until Monday. A severe ride to town, and constant occupation there in the various little duties necessary to prepare the family.
Afternoon went to shut up. I do not know why I felt so melancholy. Perhaps man never looked forward with more hope of enjoyment to a summer residence, and never had his hopes better fulfilled. It is needless to moralize nor to look to the future. Time will roll on and bring with
We visited in the evening Mr. and Mrs. Appleton, Mr. and Mrs. T. Greenleaf and Mr. Beale and his daughter, being all to take leave prior to our departure for town.
