Continuation of the heat, notwithstanding the thunder shower of last evening. I went to the Office after a laborious piece of work attending to the packing up of the things designed to go to Quincy. Every thing at this time is fatiguing. Yet my anxiety to get out is the greater for the very reason of the heat. Usual work in accounts. Mr. Beebe came but was not ready so we had to postpone again, until Friday. Home early for the sake of putting away my clothes.

After dinner, I took Catherine with me and the two elder boys John and Charles in my little conveyance and brought them to my new residence in Quincy. We got there just previous to a heavy thunder shower which was followed by a magnificent display of the landscape. My first impressions were those of enjoyment, but the disarrangement of every thing and the severe care and labour depressed me. I read some of a book upon political Economy written by one Poulett Scrope, in which are some views of banking which confirm my impression of the correctness of my theory.1
