Diary of Charles Francis Adams, volume 5
1833-12-17
Morning clouds, it began to rain in the Afternoon and to blow almost a hurricane. I was seriously anxious for the safety of my chimney tops, which however went safely through the night.
I went to the Office, but did nothing. Discomposed by a head ach from indigestion. I eat too fast. This is a fault of all Americans and springs from hurry of habit. Most of the dyspepsia for which the Country is peculiar springs from it.
Walk. Afternoon felt better and completed my letter. Sent it. At home very quietly. Read Mackintosh. This book will lead me I don’t know where.
