Marquis de Lafayette

This pair of portraits depicts Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, better known as the Marquis de Lafayette, at two notable points in his life. One portrait shows him in his military uniform in 1790, at the pinnacle of his career, a hero in America and France.  The other portrait shows him in 1824 when he returned to the United States, went on a country-wide tour and was welcomed and celebrated for all he did in support of America during the Revolution.
