Letter from John Adams to Abigail Adams, 28 July 1778, letterbook copy


You observe that taxes are very high and ask how you shall pay them? Draw upon me for one hundred pounds sterling, in your own Hand writing, and the Bill shall be paid the Moment it is presented to me. Any Person who wants to remit Money to France, Spain, Holland, or England, will be glad of the opportunity. Your Uncle Smith will negoitiate the Business for you. You may obtain silver, for your Bills of Gold, for one of these Metals shall be paid here pr your Bills at Sight. I have written the same within two or three days by another vessel.
