This portrait of Hannah Gookin Tracy (1724-1756) was painted by John Greenwood (1727-1792) between 1749 and 1752.
Hannah Gookin was born in 1724, the daughter of Nathaniel and Dorothy (Cotton) Gookin of Hampton, New Hampshire. She married Patrick Tracy of Newburyport, as his second wife, in 1749. Their two sons, Nathaniel and John, followed their father into the shipping business and founded the firm of Jackson, Tracy and Tracy in 1774 with Jonathan Jackson, who was married to their sister, also named Hannah. Gookin died in 1756.
