This portrait of Charles Russell was painted by John Singleton Copley around 1757. Charles Russell was born in Charlestown, Mass., in 1739. He became a doctor and practiced medicine in Charlestown and Lincoln. In 1775 he volunteered to care for the wounded after the Battle of Bunker Hill. A loyalist, Russell sought asylum in Antigua in 1774 and died there six years later.
