This portrait of Isaac Collins, a veteran of the Revolution and a midshipman in the navy, was completed by John Brewster (1766-1854) in 1796.

Isaac Collins was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts, in 1756. He served in the army during the Revolution from 1776 to 1777 and entered the naval service as a midshipman in 1778. As a master's mate he served on two vessels captured by the British. Imprisoned in England's Mill Prison in 1780, he and four others escaped in 1781. Collins died in Gloucester in 1834.
