The manuscript copy of Joseph Belknap's deposition during the trial of Capt Thomas Preston-held in October of 1770-is largely concerned with Preston's actions on the fateful evening of 5 March 1770. On that night, Belknap was spending time at the house of his neighbor, Councilor Royall Tyler. Preston was ultimately acquitted of the charge of murder.
