Dr. John Warren was the younger brother of Dr. Joseph Warren, the patriot leader who was killed at the Battle of Bunker Hill. During the Revolution, John Warren was the medical director of the military hospital in Boston where he began his anatomical lectures in 1780. He later was a founder of the Harvard Medical School and the Boston Medical Society. The Historical Society's collection of the personal papers of physicians includes four generations of the Warren family.
