I Returned to York. Mr Schuyler lent me
a Horse to Ride, he & an Aunt off rode in
a Chaise; When I arrived I made my Retur-
ns to the Deputy Quarter Master Genl.
took my leave of Mr Schuyler & returned
to my Tent -- Found Ensign Bryant had
gone to the Works as a Carpenter to build
a Machiene to Sink in the River to
prevent the Enemy's Ships from
penetrating up the Chanell--
Since I have had Occasion to Speak frequent-
ly of Mr Schuyler, I must give a Small
Detail of his Family which consisted of
Himself. Wife, one Small Daughter a
Mother. & Miss Polly his Sister about
13 years or 13 or 14 years old besides
a Brother of his Wife & his Family who fled from
York-- what can be said of one may be
justly applicable to all Viz. consider-
-ing all Circumstances they are as a-
=greeable People as ever I had the Pleasure
of being acquainted with. Mr. Schuy-
ler (tho a Gentleman of Liberal Education
not more than 27 years of age & one of the
first Estates in the Province) yet he inspe-
cts every work upon his Farm, which is
vastly extensive. the Same may be Said of his
wife & the rest of the Family. His house is
grand & magnificent & as pleasantly
Situated as any that ever I Saw in my
Life. His Family lives genteelly.
