[July 24, 1775, cont.] was not permitted for a long time after.

25. [July 1775] Our confinement continues with the usual
Salutations of impious and debauched language
in our ears. Mr. John Hunt and the Dutchman
Hyter discharged.

26.[July 1775] Dorrington, his son and maid discharged.

27. [July 1775] Very close confin'd.

29. [July 1775] Very close confin'd; a continued Series of Swearing
and debauch'd conversation under our windows,
which we have reason to think is done on pur-
pose to insult us.

30.[July 1775] Mr. Walter Cruise was brought in prisoner
from Charlestown. He was corporal among the
riflemen, and was taken in the night in en-
deavoring to take a centinal of the advanced guard
of Bunker Hill. The latter half of the day we
were close confin'd.

31. [July 1775] Close confin'd.

Aug. 1. [1775] Close confin'd; the rifle corporal Cruise close confin'd,
and allow'd nothing but bread and water.

2. [August 1775] Close confin'd, and the weather very hot.

3. [August 1775] A poor labouring man, and an Inhabitant of
the town was brought to gaol, cruelly beat, and
put in the dungeon. The language of the
gaol is infernal, and our treatment like Turks.
