[July 20, 1775, cont.] were examin'd. We were all Sent back to
gaol again, under a Strong guard. This makes
3 days we were carried out to tryal, (4 hours
each time, and nothing askd only what
was mentioned before) and no examination, un-
der all the disgrace and contempt they could
contrive.

21. [July 1775] No court of enquiry held, So that we are Still
held in Suspense. We had been in prison 29 days when
we found out by chance from the Serjeant returns,
what our crimes were, and yet we were ordered
to prepare for tryal and not accused of any
thing.

24. [July 1775] Mr. Hunt our fellow prisoner and room com-
panion was very much insulted by the provost,
who Said Mr. Hunt had hurt his puppy
dog and by God he Should be confin'd a
month longer; and at noon as Master Leach's
Son was bringing his father's dinner, he

the provost drink damnation to the rebels,
the child took up the mug and Said, "Suc-
cess to the yankies:" upon which the provost
