May 31st [1776] I took a
walk to visit my
Friends in the City, I am greatly rejoiced
at the great regard & Esteem, that I
discover=
-ed, I had Shewn me on a perticular Occa=
-sion, by Some of the Officers in our Regt.
June 2d. [1776] I mounted
Guard at the Lower
Barracks on in the Grand Battery, the Guard
consisted of 80 Men 1 Capt & 3 Subs -- had
a tolerable pleasant Time of it- it was
Sunday and we had a great Number of
Visitants after Service was performed---
Lieut
Hayward & myself had a
[conference?] &c &c &c
3d [June 1776 ]
Our the Officers of our Regt had
established
an Association consisting of the whole Choir of Officers
to consult upon Matters that Should occur
relating to our Regt &
to Spend a few Hours
in Social Conversation: we had a Room
at a Publick House not far from the Camp
& were to meet once every in a
Fortnight
upon Mondays in the Afternoon---
There had been already two of these
associations but I had not attended on
account of my late Indisposition, in
each of these the manner of my appoint=
=ment in this Regt (which had given
um=
-brage to Some that I had Superceeded)
was discussed in my absence, but by acco=
-unts from Some perticular very
worthy
Friends in whom I could confide, I was
respected by all as to my Character even above
what I deserved thaught I deserved,
