23. [June 1775] Benja. Hallowell came in the yard and ask'd the
provost if he had not one Gill in goal, the provost
told him no; but that he had Edes's son, upon
which he came into my room and said, I was a
damn'd raskall, and ought to have been hang'd
long ago.

29.[June 1775] Master Leach and Lovell were bro't to gaol and put
in the room with me and my companions.

July 1 [1775]. Major Harry Rooke took a book of religion
from Mr. Jos. Otis, the gaol keeper, who told him the
book belong'd to Some of the prisoners taken at
Bunker's Hill fight, and was given them by a
clergyman of the town; he carried it to Shew
General Gage, and then bro't it back and Said
"it is your God damn'd religion that had ruin'd
your country; damn your religion.
