Query 11. Does harmony in general prevail
between the black & white citizens ?
Do they associate freely together ? OR,
Is there a pre-eminence claimed by the
one, & either avowedly or tacitly admitted
by the other ?

I am not sensible of any want of harmony in gene-
ral between persons of different colours merely on
that account of that difference. People of loose &
debauched Characters & ungovernable passions have
disagreements & quarrells but these are not known
abroad unless brought by complaint before ma-
gistrates. The blacks are frequently employed
by the Whites as servants & labourers & I believe they
receive the same good treatment & wages as other
persons of their standing. There is no affectation
of superiority nor submission to inferiority on acco
of colour, unless among people whose arrogance
on the one hand or whose abjectness on the other
may prompt them to shew these same dispositions
toward people of the same colour with themselves.
