Several Flaggs came Yesterday &
to day from the Enemy but no Dis-
-patch was received as the Genl was
resolute not to receive any letter resp=
-ecting his puplick character unless
it was properly directed; The officer
Said that Genl Howe regretted much
that he had not arived a few Days
Sooner as it might have Saved great
trouble if he had arived with the
power he has vested in him before
the Independance was declared on
at the desire of Genl How, verbally
received, Genl Howe Washington received the Adju=
-tant Genl of the Ministerialists to an interview with him
in the City - who braught the Same
letter from Genl Howe that had before
been offered him but Genl Washington
still continued resolute not to receive it
notwithstanding he was earnestly
desired to do it by Adjt Genl. These
behaved to each other with the greatest
complisance, & the Adjutant Genl after
Spending considerable time in Conference
with Genl Washington in which he ever gav
gave him the title of Your Excellency was
conducted to his Boat attended by a number
of the Officers &c of the Army-- tis Said that at
his departure he was overheard highly to the honour
of our Noble General---
