A HAPPY NEW-YEAR TO
COMMODORE RODGERS,
OR, HUZZA FOR THE PRESIDENT OF CONGRESS.
A SONG Composed on the arrival of the Frigates in BOSTON, yesterday,
(December 31, 1812,)
with a good supply of the READY RHINO.

HUZZA for the seamen undaunted by fear,
May they all of 'em find it a happy New-Year,
May the laurels which cluster on liberty's brow,
For a thousand years hence be as blooming as now.
CHORUS.
Columbia's bright name then with glory shall sound,
And the praise of her heroes be sung the year round.

Our DECATUR, our HULL, & our JONES, on the sea
Have prov'd to Old Nep. that his fav'rites they be,
And the jolly old dog their birth-right to maintain,
His trident gave up, and bade them rule the main.
Columbia's bright name then with glory shall sound,
And the praise of her heroes be sung the year round.

Britania's sad genius look'd on with a sigh,
For she saw that the end of her glory drew nigh,
Her tears they flow'd fast as away from her drew,
Daddy Neptune wrapp'd up in his garmet of blue.
Columbia's bright name then with glory shall sound,
And the praise of her heroes be sung the year round.

Now Hull soon dispatch'd without trembling or fear,
That proud saucy hussey, the pert Miss Guerriere,
And Jones at the Frolic soon pelted away,
Till the Frolic was tir'd of such frolicksome play,
Columbia's bright name then with glory shall sound,
And the praise of her heroes be sung the year round.

Next Decatur the brave, with a crew full of glee,
Met the fam'd Macedonian ploughing the sea,
And though from a conqueror she borrowed her name,
To be conquer'd she sure to that latitude came.
Columbia's bright name then with glory shall sound,
And the praise of her heroes be sung the year round.

The British now thought that the Devil was in't,
As we gave them the kick ere they found out the hint,
So in different directions they 'gan soon to ply,
And of late sure it seems that they're been cursed shy.
Columbia's bright name then with glory shall sound,
And the praise of her heroes be sung the year round.

Bold RODGERS has hunted, and hunted in vain,
And but one of their frigates has found on the main,
Who not being fond of his true yankee play,
Ran as fast as she could, and at night ran away.
Columbia's bright name then with glory shall sound,
And the praise of her heroes be sung the year round.

But his cruise has successful been, say what you will,
Tho' his bull-dogs no Britons have happen'd to kill,
They were glad to avoid an American dash,
And to purchase whole skins, they left him their cash.
Columbia's bright name then with glory shall sound,
And the praise of her heroes be sung the year round.

Now in port safely moor'd, let each brave jolly soul,
To the health of their Commodore toss the full bowl,
For his courage at TRIPOLI sure has been tried,
And he never will run from an enemy's side.
Columbia's bright name then with glory shall sound,
And the praise of her heroes be sung the year round.
