En route to Fiji Is.
July 7th [1946] @ 2. P.M.
1946

Dear Granny-

By this time you must have
had several sails in the Fishhawk & tried
out the launch & gone up Perry's Cove
& found that the tennis court had not
been well fixed & all the other things
that go with the first few days at
North Haven. Did Muriel & George find
their house in good shape? Has the
wood that was cut up the cove been
removed? I'll bet that it has not.

This is certainly a planned
hurried trip of 15 or 16 days. It is
a trip of Dr. Compton & of Bradley
Dewey with about 6 or 8 others along.
We stop tonight at the Fiji Islands
& go tomorrow to Auckland in New
Zealand - after that to Wellington
where we hope to see the Prime
Minister Frazer. Then we cross to
Melbourne where these men are to
deliver lectures. After that to

Sydney & possibly Adelaide. If we do
the latter I shall try to look up
Nancy Movius' father. How we com [e]
back depends on the knowledge we
gain of airfields & facilities for
servicing the plane. The next atom
experiment is due for July 24th. It is
to be under water & will probably be
more interesting because of its novelty
& more destructive of the hulls of
battleships. Have you seen pictures of
the Cloud that arose? I have seen
some remarkable colored pictures taken
from 12 miles away. Some airplane
without pilots went right through it.
The data from their instruments will
be important in showing the amount
of radio activity which is so dangerous.

So far no mail has come through.
Yesterday I visited Pete's grave in
Guam. It is nicely kept up in a
small cemetery near the Town. They
were very nice to me there. Give my love
to Muriel & George.

Love to you.
