THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
June 25, 1941

Dear Leverett:

Many thanks for your letter, reporting
on the Commencement Exercises and the presentation
of the Doctor of Civil Laws to me in absentia from
Oxford University.

It was a very great disappointment not
to be able to attend in person. General Watson
delivered your message to me and reported the
signal honors that had been shown him as my rep-
resentative, and particularly your gracious ref-
erences to me in your speech as Chairman of the
Board of Overseers.

In these trying times I have to miss
many things which would be a joy, and none would
have been a greater inspiration than the Harvard
ceremonies.
With best personal regards,
Very sincerely yours,

Franklin D Roosevelt
