Dear Mr. Saltonstall,
I have long
been intending to give
you the two pictures, which
are really rather fine,
feeling that you ought
to have them; and so I
will send them to you
-- only asking that if
by any chance you have
a duplicate of one, you
will return me that one of
mine. I know Lord
North (address Wroxton
Abbey, Banbury, North
Warwickshire) would gladly
answer any questions from
you. But, may I ask
that in writing you
preserve a judicious silence
as to my having
given them a way?
He sent them to me
because he evidently
misunderstood a remark
of Mrs. Roosevelts as
to their being connection
(thinking she meant
blood relations) of
little Alice's; and he
was very kind to
us while we were at
his place. His son had
been on my ranch.
Give my love to
Mrs. Saltonstall and
co all. I heartily
appreciate what you
so kindly say about
my service as civil service
commissioner. What a
financial tangle we are in!
Cordially yours
Theodore Roosevelt
