Gainesville Fla. Feby. 6 1877
Hon. Leverett
Saltonstall
Boston Mass.
Dear Sir:
Our people here
having been made very indignant at
the publication of one J.W. Raymond in
the
"Boston Traveller" of a letter purpor-
ting to be in reply to your life-like
representation of affairs here in Fla. Mr
Jno J. Thompson, who sends you
this,
has busied himself in getting up a docu-
ment refuting Mr. Raymonds charges,
which document he has endeavored to have
signed only or mostly by people from
the Northern States, which I think is proper–
tending to carry more weight with it.
As Mr Thompson proposes sending these
papers to you allow me, therefore, to in-
troduce him to you as one of our
reliable, representative men, who would
not send you anything but that which
was genuine.
With pleasant remembrance of the
honor I had in meeting with you in
Tallahassee
R. F. Taylor
