-- I do hereby certify that in
June
1775, when I was one of the Committee
of Supplies for this State, that a large
number of horses, Cattle, Sheep [etc.?]
the property of Henry Howel
Williams were taken from
Noddles Island
near
Boston, by order of the Commander
of the American troops at
Cambridge.
--that to my knowledge the horses
taken were put into the fences
of the United States; and though
I cannot with precision recollect
the number, yet I believe the
above amount is not too high charged
either with respect to the number
or value of the horses. And
As to the Cattle & Sheep charged
above, I have no personal
knowledge in what manner
they were applied, but I have
no doubt they were used for
the benefit of the American
Army. as I was informed so by officers & others at that time --
Upon the whole, the
account above charged is in
my opinion just & ought to
be paid by the United States.
