Artwork 01.021 Label affixed to back of panel inscribed: "This portrait of Lafayette was painted when he came here to be present at the laying of the cornerstone of Bunker Hill monument in 1826 [sic]. Mrs. T. G. Appleton who saw him and Mr. R.B. Forbes pronounced it a perfect likeness. C. Thayer." [Note: Lafayette's visit was actually in 1825.]
