In this statement William Burbeck certifies that he was assisted by Henry Howell Williams in leaving Boston on 21 April 1775, two days after the Battle of Lexington and Concord. This statement is part of the Noddles Island papers, a collection of documents assembled by Henry Howell Williams when he requested compensation for property losses incurred during the Siege of Boston.
William Burbeck (1716-1785) was second-in-command of an American artillery regiment; worked at the Castle William Fort for several years; Boston’s fireworks expert (he prepared the fireworks used at the celebration of the repeal of the Stamp Act in 1765); former owner of Green Dragon Tavern; leading member of Sons of Liberty; and Boston Tea Party participant.
