This is a bill of sale from Henry Ward to Otis Baker for an enslaved boy named Cato, 6 December 1763. Over thirteen years later Baker manumitted Cato: on the verso is a certificate for his discharge and freedom, 4 June 1777, signed by Otis Baker and witnessed by Jeremy Belknap, the founder of the Massachusetts Historical Society.
