This is a printed version of Phillis Wheatley's elegy on the death of George Whitefield, 1770.  This particular version was published in a small volume, Heaven the Residence of the Saints (Boston: 1771).  Whitefield, an immensely popular visiting evangelist in America, was the personal chaplain of Selina Hastings, the Countess of Huntingdon.  This poem is included in Phillis's book Poems on Various Subjects (1773) which she dedicated to the Countess of Huntingdon.
