Durring the 1884 presidential campaign, Friedrich Graetz, drawing for Puck, compared the high ethical standards of both George Washington and John Quincy Adams in avoiding financial conflicts of interest, with the corrupt Gilded Age politics of his own day.
Puck, the first American weekly humor magazine, began publication in 1877. Through chromolithography, Puck was heavily illustrated in color and revolutionary in both design and content.
