General Gage instructs two of his officers, Captain John Brown and Ensign Henry De Berniere, to travel the roads west from Boston and to gather and record information along the way. Also included are Gage's instructions, a month later, sending Brown and Berniere on a mission to Concord, a frequent meeting place for the Provincial Congress as well as a large storehouse for munitions.
