- Fashioning the New England Family
This small fragment of woven wool-damask originating in Northern Europe is a family relic, passed down through 10 generations. The family preserved it from a dress belonging to Mayflower passenger Priscilla Mullins (ca. 1602–ca. 1685) who later married John Alden. At various times Priscilla Mullins Alden’s descendants donated similar pieces of the same damask to several Massachusetts collections.
