This letter from Boston representative Thomas Cushing to Jasper Mauduit, Parliamentary agent for Massachusetts, describes the disagreement between the houses of the Massachusetts legislature about the best way to oppose the Sugar Act and the proposed Stamp Act. Cushing asserts "the exclusive Right of the People of the Colonies to tax themselves."
